Groom to Zoom

On Tuesday 30th June Career Links facilitated the Groom to Zoom: Trainee and Apprentice Industry Awareness Forum.

This pilot event gave participants information from industry experts on various aspects of preparation for trainee and apprentice job opportunities in a competitive employment environment.

A panel of experts led three workshops on:

First Impressions and Personal Presentation
Effective Communication and Employer Expectations
Training, Interview Techniques and Resume Writing

Feedback from students and parents was very positive. One parent said "We would like to thank all involved for the effort taken to put on the Groom to Zoom today. My son and I found it very informative. It was good having small groups that made it more personal. Well done. Sincere thanks.”

Career Links plans to improve and expand this event for 2010.

SBAT Information Night

On Tuesday 30th June, Career Links coordinated the annual School Based Apprenticeship and Traineeship (SBAT) information event.  Attendance at this event has grown strongly each year, with this year’s event attracting over 400 parents and their Year 10 students keen to find out whether a School Based Apprenticeship or School Based Traineeship is the right choice as part of the Higher School Certificate.

Career Links provided an in depth presentation that covered how SBAT’s work, how they fit into the Higher School Certificate, and how to market themselves to a potential employer.

At the conclusion of the main presentation, parents and students had the opportunity to speak directly with representatives from Registered Training Organisations, Group Training Organisations, Australian Apprenticeship Centres, State Training Services, Trade Schools, and Career Links.

Year 10 students who wish to pursue a SBAT are now encouraged to speak with their Career Adviser to ensure they have chosen and applied for the appropriate VET/TVET subject and to submit an
Expression of Interest form with Career Links.
