Career Links, in partnership with Toronto High School and the the Parental and Community Engagement (PaCE) program, present YAKKA DAY Try A Skill 2012. This event is for local Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students and parents, and will provide hands on experience in a variety of trades and businesses.
YAKKA DAY 2011 was a great success with over 250 students and parents/caregivers attending. Over 20 local schools were represented with 32 hands on activities from employers and job providers. A large part of the event's success can be attributed to the Aboriginal presenters who act as role models for the students.
YAKKA DAY is an excellent opportunity for parents/caregivers and students to listen, discover, ask questions and learn about how a school subject can lead to a particular career; for example, how being good at maths can help you pursue a career as a builder. YAKK DAY is an opportunity for students to have a holistic look at careers and ongoing study options and how application and attitude to school work can affect career outcomes.
If you are interested in attending or exhibiting at this event, please contact Rhonda 0412 490 123 or Michele 0403 029 132.
