The Get Back in the Game program, funded by the NSW Government aims to inspire and support disengaged youth, aged 15 to 21, by assisting their transition into education, training or employment.

How Does it Work?

Career Links operates the Get Back in the Game program across the Newcastle, Lake Macquarie, Port Stephens and Hunter regions. Our experienced staff can work one-on-one with disengaged youth to restore confidence, assist with work readiness and life skills and build support connections to establish a positive framework for future pathways.

Who is Eligible?

  • Participants must be 15 to 21 years old.
  • They cannot be enrolled in any other youth transition programs.
  • They must reside within Newcastle, Lake Macquarie, Port Stephens or Hunter regions.
  • Not currently working more than 8 hours per week.
  • Not enrolled in study/training.
  • Referrals are accepted from participants themselves or through schools, agencies, health providers, DCJ, community services, parents, friends or family members.

What We Provide

  • Mentoring, career and transition planning, health and wellbeing referrals, access to training and job opportunities.
  • Job search skills, CV, work experience, training/education advice and connections, work essentials like a White Card or PPE. 
  • Life skills – how to navigate MyGov services and ID documents, tax file number, Medicare, bank account, licences (e.g., Learners Permit), interview and presentation skills. 
  • Flexible meeting options (time and place) to make it easy for us to connect with you. 
  • This program is provided free of charge.
